Below is chapter 15 of the book which lists contact numbers and websites you will need regularly. So, add this page to your favourites in your Internet browser.

Please note that I have given the TTY numbers too. TTY stands for “Tele typewriter”. It is for the hearing impaired. Just type on the phone what you need to say, and the words will be transmitted into sound.

Canada Child Tax Benefit ( CCTB )

For individual income tax enquiries including personal income tax returns, installments,
RRSPs, and the Working Income Tax Benefit call 1-800-959-8281.

For business and GST/HST registration, payroll, GST/HST (including rebates such as the
new housing rebates), excise taxes and other levies, excise duties, corporations, sole

Emergency contact number

If there is an emergency ( vehicle accident, robbery etc ) dial 911 and you will be transferred to Police, Fire department or Ambulance service.

Legal aid

If you need a lawyer but cannot afford it and have low or no income, contact Legal Aid
Ontario. They give low-income people access to a range of legal services and they help
almost 4,000 people everyday.

You’ll have to meet their strict financial eligibility limits. You might be asked to contribute
toward the cost of their legal fees.

Telephone directory

If you don’t want to go through the yellow pages or search online for a telephone number, dial 411 and mention the name of the organization, city etc and you will be given the phone number. Please ask your service provider how much they charge for this service. At the time of writing (Dec, 2012), Rogers Communications and Bell Canada are charging $2.50 per call. You will be given the number, the number will be dialed for you and the number will be sent to your phone in a text message.
